Covering The Best Dog Toys On The Market And How To Choose Which Is Best For Your Dog
There is currently an overwhelming amount of dog toys on the market today. Everything you can think of from balls, to frisbees, squeak toys, interactive toys, rope toys, and more. With all of these options, it can be difficult to determine which toys are worth buying or which toys your dog will like. That’s where Lucky Dogs And Cool Cats Pet Sitting has you covered! This article will cover some of our favorite dog toy products based on what kind of personality your dog has.
Just Our Opinion
Full disclosure, we are not affiliated with or sponsored by any of the dog toys/dog toy companies featured in this article. This article is based purely on our opinion. Although we are not official dog toy professionals, we have been in the pet sitting business for over 10 years and have a great deal of experience when it comes to dogs and how they interact with toys. We simply want to share our knowledge of dogs and dog toys with responsible pet owners like you.
Some dogs simply love to chew on stuff. They chew when they’re bored, anxious, lonely, or just for fun. These types of dogs will chew on anything, including your furniture. Instead, give them a toy they can chew on that is safe and will last more than just a day.
For the dogs that love to chew and gnaw, we recommend the Nylabone Dura Chew. As the name implies, these products are durable and can withstand long hours of being chewed on by both small and big dogs. They are made of pet friendly nylon material that is designed to never splinter, break, or become sharp. They often come in a variety of flavors making them even more appealing to your dog.
The Ball Chasers
One of the most common types of dog personalities is the “ball chaser.” Many dogs love to please their owners by chasing after a thrown ball and bringing it back to them (commonly called fetch). This is especially true in breeds like Golden Retrievers, Border Collies, Labrador Retrievers, and Beagles. Playing fetch provides your dog exercise, stimulation, and it makes them feel happy & accomplished.
When it comes to dog toy balls, we highly recommend the Chuckit! Ultra Ball. While any old ball will serve the overall purpose, these balls were built to last. It’s made of quality pet friendly materials, has an extra thick rubber core, floats on water, and is brightly colored for visibility purposes. This ball was specifically made for the dogs that love to play fetch.
The “Need To Stay Busy” Type
Just like people, some dogs are restless and need something to do to keep them preoccupied throughout the day. These types of dogs require stimulation on a regular basis and can be destructive and/or act out if not given a task or activity to keep them busy.
When it comes to dogs that simply need to be preoccupied, we recommend the OurPets IQ Treat Ball. This product is a fun alternative to slow feed dog bowls. You simply fill the pet friendly plastic ball with treats or kibble and give it to your dog. There is a small hole (the gap can be adjusted) where the treats or kibble will fall out in small increments. This toy encourages the dog to play/work for the food inside and they are instantly rewarded for it.
The Energetic Type
Some dogs just never seem to run out of energy. No matter how many walks you take them on or how many hours you spend playing with them, they just keep going. Since pet owners usually don’t have an infinite supply of energy the way some dogs do, it’s important to have some other way of getting that energy out. Squeak toys are a great way to keep energetic dogs both busy and happy. But, listening to a squeak toy all day can be irritating. Thankfully there is a solution.
If you have an energetic dog that loves to chew on squeak toys, then you should consider investing in the Hear Doggy Silent Squeaker Chew Toy. Unlike conventional squeaker chew toys, this squeaker is tuned to an ultrasonic frequency between 24 and 28 KHz. This makes it silent to people, but still provides a satisfying squeak sound to dogs.
The Cuddling Type
Unlike the energetic type, some dogs simply want to relax, sleep, and cuddle with their owners. We love dogs that cuddle! Sadly, most of us have jobs and can’t spend all day at home snuggling with their dogs. But, there are cuddle buddy alternatives for our dogs.
Realistically, your dog could snuggle up with any old plush toy. However, the Lamb Chop Squeaky Plush Toy by Multipet is one of the most popular plush dog toys for good reason. It is made of incredibly soft material, is safe for pets to chew on, and comes in a variety of sizes. Just like a young child with their stuffed teddy bear, this product is great for dogs that like to have something warm and fuzzy to snuggle with at night.
